Free Write...almost :-)

What is on your mind? How are things going? What are you concerned about? Take the next few moments to write whatever is on your mind...within reason. Remember, this is a school blog and Mrs. Hoene is grading what you write.

Tell me what is going on with you this week...

and I will tell you that Mrs. Hoene's sister is going to have a c-section next week and I am very excited, yet worried at the same time. I am stressed to the limit with my post-graduate work at UL. Two classes a week?? What was I thinking? Lastly, 5 full weeks until Spring Break. I hope I can do it...

See it is that easy...just use this time to get a few things off your mind...I feel much better!

Class Survey...

Tell me what you think, thus far. We are half-way through the 3rd semester of the school year and I would like to know what you think about this class. I am planning for next year and value your opinion. But please remember this is NOT your opportunity to bash the technology in the building. Believe me, I am well aware of what we lack. I am more intersted in what your thoughts are about the class content. So, take a few moments and answer these questions honestly and seriously. I will thank you in advance for your help in planning future technology classes at North.

1. What activity have you learned the most from so far this year?

2. What activity could you have done without? Why?

3. How could this class be more challenging for students in the future? Be specific, please.

4. Of all the activities you have completed this year, which one are you most proud of? Why?

5. If one of your friends asked you about this class and if he/she should take it, what would you say?

Again, thank you for seriously considering your comments. I look forward to reading them.

Where is Mrs. Hoene?

So...you have a sub today. You will survive, I am sure. Many of your comments on the previous post dealt with teachers becoming obsolete...humm...very interesting. I won't take that personally :-) Today you will continue working on your DTP activities. Do your best to follow the step by step directions for each activity. Try to limit your printing...in fact, don't print anything unless it is a must! If you get stuck (especially you Photoshop people) don't freak out! Simply jot down your problem on a piece of paper and give it to the sub. I will try to figure out the delima before you come into class next week. Yes, you can move on to the next activity.

By the way, many of the ideas you came up with in your School of the Future, are actually becoming a reality in West Philadelphia. Did you read the articles linked to the last post? Go back and read the first 2--Microsoft and ABC News. It seems that the future is here!! Also, the sub has a reading about this very topic. You can earn up to 10 points extra credit if you read the article and comment on it on this Blog. Make sure NOT to take the article home, as I only made enough copies for a class set.

Lastly, many of you need to proofread what you type on this Blog...lots of typing errors :-)

Have fun in class today and have a great weekend!!

See you next week,
Mrs. Hoene

Classroom of the Future

Close your eyes and wake up to "school" in 2030. What do you think this "school" would look like? What would students be doing? How are tests administered? Imagine a class visiting a tide pool and through the use of a sensor glove, picking up a sea urchin and starfish to explore. Imagine taking a tour of the great pyramids where students roam through winding corridors inside the ancient structures exploring the artifacts and remains of this era. Imagine taking a music class from an instructor at Juliard School of Music through distance learning and the internet. Think about what this "school" could be like. Respond to the following scenario:

1. Describe what you think school will "look like" in 25 years. Don't limit yourself to the actual building, but what about the student and teachers. How will they have changed as well?

2. How will technology have changed in the next 25 years? What impact will that change have on education and schools?

3. Think about what you carry around in your backpack or keep in your locker today. What will the backpack/locker of a typical high schooler look like in 25 years?

Take some time to think about how school will have progressed and changed in the next 25 years.

I look forward to reading your comments and discussing them in class.
